Photographer: Rikki SnyderThe Power of Patina
Many Waterworks products are crafted with living finishes — an important choice that honors the beauty of the materials we use. They'll naturally develop a patina, preserving their essence and strength while absorbing the ambiance around them to grow ever more captivating. Environmental variables such as humidity levels and the frequency of contact with the finish can expedite the natural progression of patina formation.
If you like the look of patina, simply let your metal finish be. You can always polish it back to its original state.
LEARN MORETHE WORLD OF NICKEL FINISHES
Nickel
A warm-toned metal that elevates all design aesthetics. Left to patina over time, this finish will gradually transform into a silvery, less reflective look. Polish regularly to help maintain its original bright shiny finish.

Brass
Traditional, nostalgic and a design market favorite, brass begins as a polished, highly reflective surface and patinates over time, taking on lush texture and color variations that make each piece unique. A quick polish will restore its original shine.

Burnished Brass
A warm metal with a velvety gleam, created through an exclusive hand-burnishing process. This finish evolves to a slightly richer, darker tone. Avoid polishing to preserve its subtle brush lines.

Vintage Brass
A proprietary natural antiquing process gives this finish its deep undertones and mellow heirloom effect. Over time, its color will soften further. Avoid polishing to protect the oxidized outer layer of the finish.

Dark Brass
An oxidized, dark earth-toned metal with subtle highlights that with time will reveal richer, brighter hints of brass. Wax as needed to maintain this finish’s original appearance and avoid polishing.

With its cool, bright tones, this electroplated mirror finish suits any design aesthetic. It's also highly resistant to staining and shows little to no tonal changes with standard use.

Copper
A striking rosy mirror finish often used in kitchen and bar applications. Quick to patinate, darker brown tones and shades of verdigris will emerge. If desired, its original brilliance is easy to maintain with routine polishing.

Matte Gold
A traditional hand-burnished metal with visible brush lines and a subtle gleam. One of our most stain-resistant finishes, matte gold generally ages evenly and will slightly darken with time and use.
See the patina process over time below*Other than wiping away water spots, cleaners were not used on the faucets photographed above to capture the natural patina process over time. You can control the level of patina that is right for you by how often you care for your metal. Cleaning and polishing frequency, plus environmental factors like humidity and hardness of water, will affect the aging process of each metal differently. No two pieces will patina evenly or exactly the same way.
